Employment with Summit Field Analytical Services

When additional staff is needed, Summit Field Analytical Services (Summit-FAS) typically hires degreed geologists and experienced mudloggers for drilling projects in the Rocky Mountain region.  Other Earth Science degrees are considered.

Field personnel will work and live on drilling locations and are responsible for providing analytical results for total gas and chromatographic data and lithologic descriptions of cuttings.  Other duties include reporting any visual oil and gas shows to the company geologist and/or engineer,  preparation of morning reports and compilation of the mud log.  Computer and good laboratory skills are necessary,

Pay is commensurate with experience and is competitive for the industry.  There are three options for employment with SMS:

  •  Summit-FAS will hire experienced self-employed geologists and mudloggers as independent subcontract workers on a day-rate basis and per diem for short term assignments.  A reliable vehicle is required and the standard IRS rate for job-related mileage will be paid.  A subcontract agreement and proof of vehicle and liability insurance is required.

  • Summit-FAS will hire employees for field work on an hourly salary basis with paid overtime and per diem.  Full time employees must live within reasonable commuting distance from the Heber City, UT office location.   A reliable vehicle and proof of insurance is required and the standard IRS rate for job-related mileage will be paid for approved travel, but not for commuting from residence to the Heber City office. 

  • Trainees or interns will be trained in-house and on-the-job by experienced staff.  Pay will be on an hourly basis with paid overtime and per diem.  Following a successful training and probationary period, the trainee will be eligible for a pay increase.  A reliable vehicle and proof of insurance is required and the standard IRS rate  for job-related mileage will be paid for approved travel, but not for commuting from residence to office. 

    Summit-FAS has a 401K retirement savings program available through payroll deduction.

  • Summit-FAS
    participates in a third party random drug/alcohol testing program.  The program requires pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and quarterly random screening.
